EPAS-E Learning Management System

This system is a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS) designed to support structured instruction, competency-based assessment, and student engagement through integrated digital tools. It enables institutions to deliver modular, outcomes-based education aligned with the Philippine K–12 grading framework while maintaining high standards in security, scalability, and performance. The platform supports advanced quiz and assessment management, including video-based and image-based evaluations, as well as multiple question formats such as multiple choice, true or false, identification, and other customizable types. In addition, it allows for efficient encoding and management of digital learning modules and instructional documents. From an instructional design perspective, the system implements a hierarchical course structure organized as Course > Module > Information Sheet > Topic, ensuring clarity in content delivery and progression. It provides four distinct assessment types: self-checks (automatically graded with over 14 question types), homework (manually evaluated), task sheets (practical activities), and job sheets (procedure-based exercises). Competency checklists with item-level evaluation further support outcomes-based education, while module prerequisites include circular dependency detection to prevent logical inconsistencies in course flow. The grading system adheres to the Philippine K–12 scale, applying weighted computations across assessment categories (Self-checks: 20%, Homework: 30%, Task sheets: 25%, Job sheets: 25%). It supports GPA calculation on a 4.0 scale and enables export of grades in CSV or Excel formats. Certificate generation with PDF export and public verification ensures credential authenticity and accessibility. To enhance learner engagement, the platform incorporates gamification mechanisms, including activity-based point systems, achievement badges, progress milestones, leaderboards, and streak tracking. These features are designed to encourage consistent participation and improve completion rates. The system also includes robust communication tools, such as role-targeted announcements with commenting functionality and email notifications managed through asynchronous job queues. User management is role-based, supporting administrators, instructors, and students. It features multi-stage registration with email verification and administrative approval, bulk user operations, and instructor-level class or section management. Security is implemented using industry best practices, including two-factor authentication (TOTP), rate limiting, audit logging, cross-site scripting (XSS) prevention, Content Security Policy (CSP) with nonce support, secure session handling, and password breach detection via Have I Been Pwned integration. Sensitive data is encrypted to ensure user privacy and data protection. From a performance standpoint, the system is optimized through server-side processing for search, pagination, and filtering, along with lazy loading, query optimization, and multi-tier caching strategies. It is designed to be CDN-friendly, supports progressive web app (PWA) functionality for offline access, and includes image optimization services for efficient media handling. The system is built using modern web technologies and requires PHP 8.2+, Node.js 18+, and MySQL or MariaDB databases, ensuring compatibility with current development and deployment environments. Overall, the platform provides a scalable, secure, and feature-rich solution for digital learning delivery, assessment management, and academic performance tracking.
